Mayor Tom Arceneaux has announced the launch of the 2026 Mayor’s Summer Internship Program, an initiative designed to provide local college students with hands on experience in municipal government. Running from June 8 through July 17, 2026, the six week program offers selected students paid, structured learning opportunities that introduce them to the daily operations and inner workings of city government.
“We are excited to welcome a new cohort of passionate, driven students who are eager to learn about public service,” said Mayor Arceneaux. “This internship will provide them with meaningful exposure to city operations and help develop the next generation of leaders.”
Internship Qualifications
The program is open to students who meet specific qualifications. Applicants must be residents of Shreveport, Louisiana, with priority consideration given to local residents. Students must be at least a college sophomore or a graduate student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition, candidates should demonstrate a strong work ethic, a commitment to community, a sense of responsibility, and solid academic performance. Students who have participated in the program for the past two consecutive years are not eligible to apply.
Selected interns will work 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will receive compensation for their participation.
How to Apply
To apply, students must submit a completed application, resume, letter of interest, two letters of recommendation with contact information, and official college transcripts sent directly from their institution. All application materials must be received by 4 p.m. on April 6, 2026. Incomplete applications or those that do not meet the eligibility requirements by the deadline will not be considered.
