A 4-month-old Shreveport baby is getting national attention after advancing to the Top 10 of Colossal’s 2026 Baby of the Year competition, with his family now calling on the Ark-La-Tex community to rally behind him.
Jamoreau Long Jr. entered the nationwide online competition earlier this year and has continued advancing through public voting rounds. His father, Jamoreau Long, said the experience has been meaningful for the family and the community supporting his son.
Long Jr. will turn 5 months old on Sept. 24.
“Watching Jamoreau Jr. continue advancing in the competition has been an incredible experience for our family,” Long said. “And seeing so many family members, friends, and supporters rally behind him at such a young age has made this journey extremely meaningful to us.”
Baby of the Year is operated by Colossal Management LLC as a nationwide public-voting competition for babies under 24 months old. Supporters can cast one free vote every 24 hours, while optional donation votes are also available. Donation votes are processed through DTCare, a 501(c)(3) public charity, with funds ultimately benefiting Baby2Baby.
The competition’s 2026 champion will receive $25,000 and appear in a national advertising campaign with The Honest Company, with additional exposure through Variety.
While the competition celebrates participating babies and their families, its charitable component is focused on helping children in need through Baby2Baby.
Baby2Baby provides diapers, clothing, formula and other basic necessities to more than 1 million children each year across all 50 states. The organization distributes essential items through a network that includes foster care agencies, schools, homeless shelters, domestic violence programs, children’s hospitals, clinics, diaper banks and disaster relief organizations.
According to Colossal, the Baby of the Year competition has helped generate a $45 million grant to support Baby2Baby’s mission. Over the past 15 years, Baby2Baby says it has distributed more than half a billion critical items to families in need.
That charitable mission has given the competition additional significance for the Long family.
“The nationwide competition raises funds and awareness for Baby2Baby, an organization that helps provide essential items to children and families in need,” Long said. “If Jamoreau Jr. is fortunate enough to win, our family plans to donate most of the prize money to help others, making this journey about something much bigger than just winning a competition.”
Baby2Baby’s work includes providing newborn supplies to families through hospitals and clinics, supporting children in foster care, helping families experiencing homelessness or domestic violence and providing emergency supplies to children affected by disasters. The organization also operates programs addressing diaper need and maternal health.
For the Long family, the competition has also become an opportunity to bring the local community together around a positive story.
“We’re now hoping to get even more of Shreveport and the Ark-La-Tex community behind our little guy as he continues competing for Baby of the Year,” Long said.
Voting for Long Jr. is available through his official Baby of the Year profile. Supporters can cast a free daily vote during the applicable voting period.
