Stage Center and its School of Performing Arts have announced their upcoming summer camp production of Shrek The Musical Kids, featuring more than 40 local students in grades K-8.
The production is part of Stage Center’s 15th Anniversary Season and serves as the performance component of the organization’s For Kids By Kids Summer Camp Adventure. Themed “Bigger, Bolder, Broadway,” the 2026 season has focused on Broadway favorites, with Shrek The Musical Kids marking the fourth production in the School of Performing Arts season.
Performances are scheduled for July 24 and July 25 at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse on the campus of Centenary College. The show will be presented at 6 p.m. Friday, July 24, and 2 p.m. Saturday, July 25. Tickets are $15 for all seats and will go on sale July 6.
The For Kids By Kids camps are modeled after the Junior Theater Festival experience and combine skills-based instruction with performance opportunities. Students participate in a shortened theatrical production while also receiving intensive training in acting, singing and dancing.
According to Stage Center, camp productions are designed to emphasize the basic tools of performance, including imagination, voice and movement. Performances are staged using minimal technical elements, drawing inspiration from Shakespeare’s Old Globe tradition with a bare stage, simple lighting and collaborative storytelling.
The production is directed by Anne Brown Petersen, with choreography by Taylor Deville and musical direction by Katie Phillips.
