Slow Food North Louisiana has awarded Shreveport business Local Market On Line the Snail of Approval award to recognize exceptional businesses in North Louisiana that are working to make good, clean and fair food for all, in line with the mission of Slow Food USA and its local chapter. This powerful award helps bring attention to amazing food businesses that are excelling in two or more of these areas: sourcing, environmental impact, cultural connection, community involvement, staff support, and/or business values.

“Slow Food North Louisiana has been celebrating local food and working to broaden our local food ecosystem since 2007,” said Slow Food North Louisiana Chairwoman Angie White. “Being able to shine a bright light on the local food businesses that are doing the same and also prioritizing good, clean and fair practices brings us tremendous joy.”

Slow Food North Louisiana awarded one other Snail of Approval to Shreveport restaurant El Cabo Verde in 2023.

A national Snail of Approval map allows users to find businesses across the US that are embracing the Slow Food mantra of good, clean and fair for all. The interactive, mobile-friendly map can be sorted by location and business type. Users can go to slowfoodusa.org/snail-of-approval to use the tool.

The award came on the heels of Local Market On Line’s second anniversary celebration in late November. The store sells a wide variety of local food products, including milk, eggs, vegetables, fruit, breads, frozen meats, prepared and packaged foods, and is also the home of Shreveport Biscuit Company.

The Snail of Approval award has provided international recognition of food businesses who are committed to promoting joy and justice in their business practices for decades; a limited number of chapters in the US have led their own Snail of Approval programs as well and will continue to do so under the unified Snail of Approval program.

About Slow Food USA

The Slow Food movement began in 1989 as a rejection of a global fast food chain opening a restaurant near the Spanish Steps in Rome. Slow Food’s goal is ambitious: good, clean and fair food for all. Today, Slow Food is in over 160 countries and represented by over 80 chapters in the US. Slow Food USA exists to facilitate and grow individual engagement in the movement, organize gatherings of the Slow Food network, direct campaigns to spread the Slow Food message, and build solidarity through partnerships with other organizations that align with our mission.
